The Shahani Group, India’s premier education provider with 5 institutions under its umbrella, announced that Mrs. Maya Shahani, Chairperson, has been featured in The Knowledge Review’s 2022 listing of India’s Most Admired Women in the Education Sector. Mrs. Shahani was recognized for her contribution to the field of education – for conquering new frontiers in Indian education and inspiring a generation of aspiring educators.

Under-resourced youth in India face many challenges in obtaining good-quality education, financial constraint being primary among them. This not only prevents them from living up to their full potential, but also hampers their efforts at obtaining stable employment. Through SAGE Foundation, the CSR arm of The Shahani Group, Mrs. Maya Shahani works tirelessly to provide underprivileged youth with the financial resources they need to gain the skills that are in demand and secure white-collar jobs with better incomes, enabling them to become independent and be able to support their families adequately.

On receiving the prestigious honor, Mrs. Maya Shahani, Chairperson – The Shahani Group, Thadomal Shahani Centre For Management (TSCFM) and SAGE Foundation, and Vice-Chairperson – Global Dialogue Foundation said, “My mother taught me at an early age that a good education was the foundation for a good life. I am also fortunate to have a family that has supported me in my desire to ensure good-quality education for India’s youth. I, along with the team at SAGE Foundation, have worked diligently to empower underprivileged youth with the means to create a better future for themselves, and it is gratifying; indeed, when I see these young people building successful careers. I am humbled to receive this recognition from Knowledge Review and tremendously grateful that my work is getting the attention it needs. There are much more youths in India who need our support, and I encourage more organizations and individuals to come forward and help us in enabling them to obtain sustainable livelihoods.”

Through various initiatives, Mrs. Maya Shahani has worked hard to support underprivileged youth by providing them opportunities to upskill and become employable. Most recently, under her guidance, SAGE Foundation and TSCFM announced the Kishore Shahani Scholarship, in memory of her late husband, for 200 women hailing from low-income families impacted by Covid-19. These scholarships will allow them to enroll in TSCFM’s BFSI, Digital Marketing, and Business English courses, to obtain skills that are in high demand.

Earlier, in 2019, SAGE Foundation secured a grant of INR 76 lakh from JP Morgan, to upskill low-income youth for employment in the BFSI sector. Thereafter, for the second consecutive year in 2020, JP Morgan donated INR 17 crore to help train and upskill 4,800 graduates from low-income backgrounds. Under these initiatives, over 6,000 students have been trained and placed to date across leading companies in the sector.

SAGE Foundation and TSCFM partner to provide education support to meritorious under-resourced kids, to obtain professional qualifications and the proper grooming necessary for entry-level jobs in sectors such as BFSI, Digital Marketing and Communications. Placement support is also provided to these students, to help them obtain employment with some of India’s leading companies such as Accenture, Yes Bank, Axis Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HSBC, HDFC Bank, IIFL, KPMG, Motilal Oswal Investment Services, Suryoday Bank, ICICI Bank, SBI Capital Markets, Standard Chartered, Larsen and Toubro, and Stardust.
