Resume Building Tips

One should ensure that their resume must clearly, concisely, and strategically present their qualifications to get a recruiter interested in meeting them.

It should convey their skills, work experience, and accomplishments.

The resume is used to describe what one can accomplish professionally in a manner that also illustrates what they can do for an employer.

An updated modern resume is the key to a successful job search.

What are the things to remember while writing a resume?

1. Highlight Accomplishments

You want to be able to identify the best examples of where you demonstrated your skills.

These examples should speak to what you achieved in your Academics, and should demonstrate what kind of employee you can potentially become.

List down all the certification you have achieved in the academic career

2. Make a clear and concise Resume

While making a resume one should understand that an interviewer takes just a few seconds to scan through it, so one should ensure that they list down all the necessary points that would be useful to be selected for the job.

3. Make use of a conservative font size

While making a resume one should ensure to use the fonts which is simple and easy to read such as Times New Roman
Making use of a larger size of font is for heading and subheading can help to grab the attention to certain areas of the resume such as Skills or Work experiences.

4. Limit the Resume to less pages

One should ensure that their resume do not exceed more than 2 pages, so that the interviewer can focus on the relevant information.

5. Include your Work Experience and Internships

If you have any previous experience of a job or internship, you should mention it in the work experience section along with the duration of the work and some bullet point about specific tasks you completed Include unpaid work that show off your skills If you have volunteered with a well-known organization or worked for an important cause, put it in your resume.

You should include these experiences under the “Work experience” section, especially if they are related to the position you are applying for.

7. Be honest

Lying on your resume is never a good idea. You don’t want to overstate your skills or results as it will mislead the employer. Have confidence in what you have to offer.

8. Proofread the resume multiple times

One should ensure to recheck the resume multiple time so that there are no spelling mistakes being made in the resume as it would create a negative impression on the employer and they may even get rejected for the job.

9. Create a skill Section

There are two main types of skills hard and soft. Hard skills are specific abilities you learn through education or training, like using certain software or speaking a foreign language.
Soft skills are more about how you work and interact with others, such as teamwork, communication, and flexibility.

Keeping all these tips in mind, here are some of the things you should not do in your resume

1. Do not include unnecessary personal information

It is best to not include unnecessary information in the resume such as Birthdays, Height and weight, Marital status, caste etc. This will prevent any potential bias towards you.

2. Do not include too many bullets

One should ensure that they do not include more than 5 bullet points in each section of the resume. This would make the employer to scan the important details in your resume.

3. Do not use a colorful template

One should not use a colorful template for creating a resume. While it is fine to refer to the professional resume one should not outright copy it.

One should showcase their expertise in an appealing and eye-catching manner so that they can stand out from other competitors.

4. Do not Include Hobbies or Interest

It is not recommended to mention hobbies because of the judgments potential employers can make.

However, if your hobbies are related to the position, you may include them as they can demonstrate to the employer why you are a good fit.

HOW TO WRITE A FIRST TIME RESUME FOR STUDENTS WITH NO EXPERIENCE?

1. Focus on your education

Put your education section at the top. Include details like your degree, major, relevant coursework, academic honors, and GPA if it’s above average.

2. Include extracurricular activities

List any activities outside of class, like clubs, sports, or student government body. Mention any leadership roles or responsibilities you’ve had.

3. Add volunteer work and internships:

Don’t forget to include volunteer positions, internships, or community service. These experiences show your willingness to work and learn.

4. Highlight projects and academic achievements:

Talk about any major projects or research you’ve done, especially if they relate to the job you want. Describe what you did and what you achieved.

5. Skills section:

Make a list of your skills, including technical skills (like computer software) and soft skills (like teamwork and communication)

6. Make a great first impression

Your resume is a great way to showcase your experience and make a solid first impression. It doesn’t matter how talented, passionate or experienced you are.

If you follow the tips above, you will increase your chances of moving on to the interview stage of the hiring process and landing the job of your dreams.
